Aristotle's Poetics

*Question-1 :- How far do you agree with Plato's objection to freedom of expression and artistic liberty enjoyed by creative writers? Name the texts (Novels,Plays,Poems,Movies,Tv soaps,etc...which can be rightfully objected and banned with reference to Plato's objections)

Answer

  Introduction

            "At the touch of love

                    Everyone becomes a poet"

Plato was Greek philosopher born in Athens during the Classical period in Ancient Greece. He founded the platonist school of thought and the Academic, the first institution of higher learning in the Western world.

Here we can see Plato's opinion about freedom of expression.

The freedom of expression is vital to our ability to convey opinion, conviction and beliefs and to meaningfully participate in democracy. The state may, however 'limit' the freedom of expression for certain reasons. International and domestic law empowers the state to impose limitations on the freedom of expression in order to advance broad aims such as national security, public order, public health and public morals. Yet cases from around the world demonstrate that the freedom of expression in vulnerable to unwarranted restrictions.

I agree to plato's objection to freedom of expression and artistic liberty enjoyed by creative writers. If we want to live a good life then we should live life with morality but if we want to live freedom full life then we should follow Aristotle's views.

According to me plato is right because there are so many movies, magazines, serials are creating bad impression in society and spoiled the mind of people.

There are some imaginative serials and movie like Shaktiman, spiderman ,batman these all imaginative things children try at their home and that is not good for them. And also many movies from Hollywood and Bollywood are not good for youths because they show necked scenes therefore youth of the world spoiled their mind and also spoiled society.

*Question -2:-with reference to the literary texts you have studied during B.A programme, write brief note on the texts which followed Aristotelian literary tradition (i.e his concept of tragedy, catharsis, tragic hero with hamartia etc..)

   Introduction

In theatre,a tragedy as defined by Aristotle is a play that ends badly for the Hero or heroine or others. Tragedy is usually about a person who has many good qualities, but also has one poor quality. That causes trouble for him and may be his family or friends.

Othello

During my B.A program, I studied the tragic play 'Othello' the protagonist of the play is himself Othello. We feel all these things like hamartia, tragic flaws , eror of judgment. At the end of the plat Othello kills his lover Desdemona then he come to know that she is not bittered to him and he felt guilty and he kills himself. So we can feels pity for Othello.

-His concept of tragedy

Othello is a tragedy because it tells the story of noble, principaled hero who makes a tragic error of judgement.leading to a devastating climax in which most of the characters end up either dead or seriously wounded.

- catharsis

At the end of the play Othello has a catharsis and realises lago led him astray, and that it was his own trust, naivete, and jealousy that led him to take desdemona's life.

-Tragic Hero

         Othello

- Hamartia

     Extreme jealousy

Yes, there are tragedies follow necessary rules and regulation proposed by Aristotle like chain of cause and effect principle of probability and necessity, harmonious arrangement of incidents , unity of action etc.

*Question -3:-Have you studied any tragedies during B.A programme?Who was the tragic protagonist in those tragedies?  What was their 'hamartia'?

I have studied tragedies in B.A programme.

1. Othello

 Protagonist -othello

Hamartia - hasty or careless view , extrime jealousy.

2. All My Sons

Protagonist - Joe

Hamartia -pride

 Conclusion

If we conclude all things one way plato's objection is right other way Aristotle views are right because, now a days people want to freedom and to live creative life they do not feel for moral life or immoral life.
